This is how fast the world is changing

We are on the brink of the 4th industrial revolution, what founder and chairman of the World Economic Forum, Klaus Schwab calls nothing less than the transformation of humankind.

To understand the speed of progress today, you need to understand Moore’s Law – the doubling of computing power every 18 months. Gordon Moore made that observation in 1965 when he realized that the number of transistors per square inch of integrated circuit had doubled every year. By some calculations, today computing power doubles every four months!

To see what continual doubling leads to, fold a piece of paper in half. Not so impressive. But if you could fold a piece of paper 42 times how far do you think it would stretch? You would have a tower that would go to the moon. Fold it 103 times and it would be as thick as the universe!

That’s doubling and that’s happening to computing power every few months.

We can’t predict exactly what will happen but there is something more important than prescience. Resilience. The ability to deal with change is more important than knowing how things will change. Here are three ‘P’s’ to dealing with change:

* Get excited. There is no certainty only adventure!

* Serve others and the world will always have a place for you.

* Build strong relationships. Don’t just use all the brains you’ve got, you will need to use all the brains you can borrow!

XLife’s web master, Hugh Miller also happens to be a great sci fi author. He has just debuted his first book, “Interview with Things.” Besides being one hell of a ride, it provides a well-informed view of what the future might look like.
