The easy way to do hard things
Micro Habits: Small Changes, Big Results.
Success isn’t rocket science. You want to lose weight? Move more eat less. You want to get rich? Cut down your debt, save and invest? You want to stay married? Stop trying to be right all the time. You can’t be right and married at the same time! ?
So why do most people not change? According to research from Stanford University it’s because they start too big. They try to do too much too soon.
For instance, if you have a goal to get into shape with a regular exercise program you are less likely to get there if you start with half an hour a day rather than just 30 seconds.
30 Seconds might not sound like a lot but because it’s so easy, you are more likely to do it, giving you an immediate sense of accomplishment. That’s powerful because there is nothing as motivating as success!
Once you start doing three press-ups, or five flap jacks every day, that micro habit naturally expands until before long you are doing half an hour with very little effort.
Forget go big or go home, start small and build Rome!
